A ceremony to distribute coffee saplings to local farmers was held yesterday afternoon at the office of the Township General Administration Department in Dedaye Township, Ayeyarwady Region. The initiative aims to boost household incomes, promote intercropping of coffee with perennial fruit trees, and expand Myanmar's presence in the global coffee market.
During the ceremony, U Mya Thein Maung, Chairman of the Township Management and Administration Committee, delivered a speech highlighting the objectives and benefits of coffee cultivation. He emphasized the importance of cooperation between farmers and relevant departments to ensure the survival of the saplings and to meet production targets for the designated planting areas.
Following the speech, the Chairman and officials handed over coffee saplings to departmental representatives and farmers who will be involved in the planting efforts.
According to the Township Agriculture Department, 10,000 coffee saplings are planned for cultivation across 25 acres in Dedaye Township during the 2025–2026 FY. The department will continue distributing seedlings to achieve its target.— Azar Lin
