U Than Swe, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, who is at­tending the Non-Aligned Move­ment (NAM) Ministerial Meeting in Kampala, Uganda, held bilat­eral meetings at the Speke Re­sort Convention Centre.

 

On 15 October, the Union Minister held separate meet­ings with Ms Maria Manuela Lu­cas, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Repub­lic of Mozambique; Dr Abbas Araghchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran; Mr Maxim Rvzhenkov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus; Mr Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba, Md Tou­hid Hossain, Foreign Advisor of the People’s Republic of Bang­ladesh and Mrs Monica Robelo Raffone, Ambassador of the Republic of Nicaragua to the Republic of Itay.

 

On 16 October, the Union Minister met General Odongo Jeje Abubakhar, Minister of For­eign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda.

 

During the meetings, both sides cordially discussed strengthening existing diplomat­ic relations, holding bilateral po­litical consultations, and enhanc­ing multi-sectoral cooperation, including in trade and tourism. Furthermore, they exchanged views on enhancing engage­ment and coordination on re­gional and international issues.

 

Moreover, the Myanmar side reaffirmed its commitment to the repatriation process of displaced persons from Rakh­ine State following the 2016-2017 incidents, during the meeting with Bangladesh’s Foreign Ad­visor.

 

Additionally, during the meetings with Uganda and Mozambique, both sides ex­changed views on the prospects of establishing diplomatic rela­tions and explored potential ar­eas for cooperation.

 

Currently, Myanmar has es­tablished diplomatic relations with 126 countries, including 21 African nations, out of the 193 countries worldwide. — MNA
