The Forest Department under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation continues to intensify its crackdown on the illegal timber trade through a range of measures, including the Community Monitoring and Reporting System (CMRS) in cooperation with local communities.

Between 20 and 26 October, a total of 48.48 tons of illegal timber were seized across the Nay Pyi Taw Council area and various states and regions. The confiscated timber included 29.67 tons of teak, 0.57 tons of hardwood, and 18.42 tons of other wood types.

Authorities also seized seven vehicles and pieces of machinery used in illegal logging operations and arrested 14 suspects in connection with the cases.— MNA
