Israel has carried out strikes in Gaza, accusing Hamas of violating a ceasefire agreement. Health authorities in the enclave say more than 100 people have been killed.
The attacks came while a handover of the remains of deceased hostages held in Gaza was underway, in accordance with the agreement.
But the Israeli prime minister's office said on Tuesday that remains released by Hamas the previous day were not those of the remaining hostages, calling the flawed handover a violation of the agreement.
The office then announced Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu directed the military to carry out the strikes.
Palestinian media say the attacks took place across Gaza through Wednesday. The media say an airstrike on Nuseirat in central Gaza killed 18 people, including children and women. The media also say seven people were killed in a bombing of a building in Gaza City in the north, where displaced people were sheltering.
Gaza health authorities on Wednesday said 104 people had been killed in the enclave and more than 250 injured.
The Israeli military issued a statement after the attacks, saying it had struck dozens of Hamas targets and others. It said it will continue to uphold the ceasefire agreement and respond firmly to any violation of it.
Hamas condemned the attacks, saying they constitute a violation of the agreement.
