THE Kayin traditional Don dance competition was held in Hpa-an, Kayin State, yesterday to mark the 70th Anniversary of Kayin State Day.

 

Kayin State Chief Minister U Saw Myint Oo, along with state-level officials, opened the event and gave a brief ex­planation on the history of the Kayin traditional Don dance. Following this, he watched the lively dance performance of the Hlaing Kaba Village Don Dance Troupe, which represented the Donyin Station, and presented the troupe with an award.

 

Afterwards, on the first night of the 70th Anniversary Kayin State Day Commemo­rative Don Dance Competition, the Chief Minister watched the competitive performance of 10 Don dance troupes and pre­sented them with awards.

 

In total, 20 Don dance troupes will compete in two rounds each day throughout the competition. The best 10 troupes will be selected to com­pete again and awarded priz­es, including the song prize, prayer song prize, Don dance prize, and all-around excel­lence prize.

 

Similarly, yesterday after­noon, the Chief Minister and officials inspected the prepa­rations for the 70th Anniversary Kayin State Day celebration, including the ethnic literature and culture galleries, local MSME product galleries and sales booths, and issued neces­sary instructions. — Saw Myo Min Thein (IPRD)/MKKS
