THE three Russian Navy Pacific Fleet warships, which arrived in Yangon on 10 November to conduct the third Myanmar– Russia joint naval security ex­ercise and to make a goodwill visit to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, departed Yangon’s Thilawa Port on the morning of 13 November together with Myanmar Navy vessels for the exercise area at sea. Senior of­ficers and other ranks of Tat­madaw (Navy), Russian Depu­ty Commander-in-Chief of the Navy Vice-Admiral Aleksei Ana­tolievich Kiiashko, the Russian military attaché to Myanmar, and officials saw them off.

 

Vice-Admiral Aleksei Ana­tolievich Kiiashko met with Chief of Staff (Navy) Vice-Admi­ral Aye Min Htwe at Ayeyawady Naval Region Command on 11 November evening. They dis­cussed bilateral naval relations, reciprocal goodwill visits of na­val vessels, the exchange of maritime security information, and training cooperation. After the discussion, they had a doc­umentary photo taken.

 

The opening ceremony of the third Myanmar-Russia joint naval security exercise took place at the Thiri Maha Zeya Kyaw Htin Hall of the Na­val Training Command Head­quarters on 12 November. It was attended by the Chief of Staff (Navy), Tatmadaw officers and other ranks, the Russian Navy Vice-Admiral, Russian military attaché, and observers from China, India, Cambodia, Indo­nesia, Laos, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

 

During the visit, they visited famous sites in Yangon, joined in friendly sports competitions, studied naval vessels of two countries, hosted dinner events and conducted harbour phase exercises.

 

The Russian naval ves­sels conducted naval exercis­es together with the vessels of Tatmadaw (Navy) on 13 and 14 November, and they reviewed the exercises and organized the closing ceremony on the Tat­madaw naval vessel Mottama. — MNA/KTZH
