THE Intellectual Property Department under the Ministry of Commerce conducts a Representative Training related to trademark registration twice every financial year. The department also accepts trademark applications electronically, according to Dr Moe Moe Thwe, Director-General of the IP Department.

The trademark registration application can be submitted through an electronic system or at designated departments. The department notified that trademark registration applications can be opposed on the first day of each month.

This training is to reduce errors in submitting documents asked by the IP Department, enhance representatives’ understanding, responsibility and accountability, provide quality services on behalf of trademark owners and ensure a smooth and effective communication with the department.

Myanmar passed IP laws in 2019. Subsequently, the Industrial Design Law, Trademark Law, and Copyright Law came into effect in 2023 and Patent Law, in 2024. — ASH/KK
