MYANMAR Trade Promotion Organization (MyanTrade) has been exerting efforts to sign an avocado export protocol with China.

MyanTrade aims to commence avocado export to China in accordance with the import standards of the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC) in the 2026-2027 financial year.

As avocado is still not listed on those 18 groups that require GACC registration, exporters can directly seek a permit by accessing the China International Trade Single Window with their own accounts.

The Department of Animal and Plant Quarantine under the GACC will check quarantine access for the imported grains (unroasted coffee bean, cocoa beans, fresh and dehydrated vegetables, plant seasonings (plant spices), edible grain, dried beans, oil seeds (oil plant) and herbal animal products and plants for their origins. GACC does not allow companies and business entities to register those agricultural items, and only the authorities concerned are entitled to apply for it. Products must not exceed the maximum residue limit to comply with the rules of the importing companies. Myanmar shipped only 3,000 tonnes of avocado to foreign trade partners, mainly to Thailand. This year’s avocado export target swells to 5,000 tonnes. — ASH/KK
