Officials from the Department of Comsumer Affairs under under the Ministry of Commerce destroyed prohibited food and expired medicine in its office compound in Katha Township, Sagaing Region yesterday evening.

An official from the DOCA explained about expired food and medicine which was prohibited by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to ensure the quality of standards for hygienic medicine. The FDA announced a list of tainted food and medicine during the period from January to December in 2017.

The banned food and medicine worth Ks. 805,550 which was confiscated from 14 pharmacies and four groceries in April was incinerated by members of the consumer dispute settling committee during the ceremony.—Han Myo Kyaw
