MYANMAR U-15 girls football team suffered a surprise loss to the Philippines U-15 girls team at the second group A match of the AFF U-15 Girls’ Championship 2019 at the Institute of Physical Education Stadium in Chonburi, Thailand yesterday.
Myanmar lined up with goal keeper May Oo Khin, Phyu Phwe, Khin Htay Kying, Mary Oo, Aye Htet Htet Paing, Zin Moe Pyae, Htoo Theingi Naing, Su Myat Noe, Captain Than Than Soe, Phyo Phyo Wai and Kyal Sin.
As Myanmar earlier thrashed Timor Leste by an incredible 26 goals in their first game, Myanmar was expected to win over the Philippines.
However, the Philippines were thoroughly prepared in their defense, plus their attacks made team Myanmar unable to overcome their aggressive play.
The Philippines lost 2-0 to Vietnam in their first game, and that increased the pressure in the game against Myanmar.
Upon freezing the Myanmar team defense line, the Philippines side earned a first minute goal at the 2 minute mark with a free kick by Mikaela Vinalon Villacin.
The goal upset team My-anmar’s spirit, and again the Philippines girls created more opportunities for goals.
Due to the loss in concen-tration among Myanmar team defenders, the Philippines made the second goal at the 21st min-ute, as Jenny Perez netted the second goal for her team.
The first half ended with 2 goals and overall domination by the Philippines team.
In the restart of the second half, the Philippines scored their third goal when the referee saw a Myanmar defender hit the ball with his hand in the penalty area.
The penalty shot was kicked by the Philippines’ Chenny Dano-so. Again, the Philippines scored their fourth goal at the 52 minute mark by Maegan Gacho Alforque at a short range from the goal.
Myanmar then attacked, but lost its stamina and its opportu-nities to goals.
The fifth goal for the Philip-pines was scored by Rae Tolenti-no and the match was ended as a 5-0 win for the Philippines. As for the win, the Philippines hopes to win in the semifinal of the tourney and Myanmar’s dream for the next stage also remains alive with a match against Viet Nam on 14 May.—Lynn Thit (Tgi)
